Directive 2014/33/EU – lifts and safety components for lifts
Objective
The aim of the Directive is to ensure the free movement of lifts in the EU market by fully harmonizing the essential health and safety requirements to which lifts and their safety components must conform in manufacture and prior to being placed on the market.
The Directive repeals its antecessor Directive, Dir 95/16/EC as of 20 April 2016.
Contents
This Directive applies to lifts permanently serving buildings and constructions and the safety components used in such lifts. Manufacturers of safety components and the installer of the lift are under an obligation to assess the hazards in order to identify all those which apply to their products; they must then design and construct them taking account of the assessment. The manufacturer must provide technical documentation for the lift and its components. Safe products must bear the CE conformity marking and freely circulate on the EU market while unsafe products shall be prevented from being imported.
The Directive establishes a conformity assessment procedure for the manufacturers and rules for the national authorities in charge with the supervision of the market access of lifts and components.
